Our mission at K.O.P.E. is to help mend communities suffering from violence and affected by political apathy. K.O.P.E. has been the bellwether of the movement for peace in our community for several years. Since launching the Peace 365 Campaign in 2005, we have built several thriving relationships with local municipalities, civic and religious organizations and most importantly, everyday people concerned with improving the community. January 2008- K.O.P.E. presents National Young Voters Convention before City of Riverdale. The NATIONAL YOUNG VOTERS CONVENTION (NYVC) is an initiative of KOPE, Inc. (KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROACTIVE ENTERPRISE) that works to increase voter registration, voter participation and voter education among voters, ages 18-29. The Convention will function as the central quorum which, on a non-partisan basis, communicates the goals and common interests of young voters to both candidates and elected officials.
January 2008- K.O.P.E. lectures at Lovejoy Middle School (Clayton County, GA), giving special session from Student Teacher Peace Coalition (STPC) curriculum, "The Meaning of the Dream". Students are introduced to other themes from the famous "I Have A Dream" speech delivered by Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. The themes introduced help students understand the historical context in which the speech was delivered and the political climate surrounding the 1963 March on Washington. From this perspective students are taught how to identify the three major issues Dr. King addressed in the speech. Then use the same approach toward identifying issues within thier school or community that they would like to participate in changing or improving.
February 2008- K.O.P.E. lectures at Jonesboro High School (Clayton County, GA) from curriculum, "Analyses of Urban Prose", an innovative exploration of the lyrical content in Hip Hop music. Youth are presented with certain themes from various songs and engage in dialog wherein they are encouraged to critically analyze the lyrics and discuss how the music affects their self-perception and world view.
March 2008- "PeaceSpeak" is launched at the Virginia Gray Rec. Ctr. "PeaceSpeak" is a monthly forum whereby citizens convene to discuss issues that most concern them and then network at the grassroots level to address them. Research/Recharge, a think tank formed by Knowledge of the Proactive Enterprise, issues surveys to participants of "PeaceSpeak" and will present the results of the surveys at the Second Annual Clayton County Peace Fest and Symposium in September.
May 2008- Michael Julian Bond, former Atlanta City Council member and son of civil rights icon and N.A.A.C.P. president, Julian Bond, is the keynote speaker at monthly forum "PeaceSpeak", held at the Virginia Gray Recreation Ctr.
July 2008-K.O.P.E. co-sponsors "Ben Hill Day" in Atlanta, GA.
August 2008- K.O.P.E. co-sponsors "In the Paint 2" with partnering organization, Mass Comm (themasscomm.com).
September 2008- K.O.P.E.'s own, Philip Whatley, guest speaker at Integrity Networking Group. Lectures from "Virtue of Community" series.
September 2008- K.O.P.E. co-sponsors Second Annual Clayton Conty Peace Fest and Symposium with Clayton County Parks and Recreation. Panelists and specially invited guests included: Kem Kimbrough, Sheriff-elect of Clayton County; Tasha Mosley, Solicitor General-elect of Clayton County; Rep. Roberta Abdul-Salaam (D-74); Rep. Michael Glanton (D-76); Jessie Goree, District 3 representative of Clayton County Public Schools; Trinia Garrett, District 7 representative of Clayton County Public Schools;
Min. Tony Davis, national advocate for gang violence prevention; Evelyn Wynn-Dixon, Mayor of Riverdale, GA; Sammie Milhouse, producer, director; Lyndon Batiste, Atlanta Gospel Choice Awards Nominee (Best Duo: "Batiste") and many more.
October 16, 2008- K.O.P.E. co-sponsors town hall meeting to bring the Georgia Coalition for the People's Agenda to Clayton Couny, GA. The People's Agenda is an organization convened by civil rights icon, Dr. Joseph E. Lowery. The organization conducts massive voter registration efforts throughout the year and also uses issue-campaigning as a method to bring awareness to cases of civil rights violations.
November 15, 2008 "K.O.P.E. Day of Service"- K.O.P.E. partners with "Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry" to prepare dinners for families in need during the Holiday season. This will be an ongoing part of our holiday season service.
We are pleased to announce that Peace Fest 2 (September 20, 2008) was a major success and we look forward to partnering with every municipality in Clayton County, GA to launch our new initiative: The National Young Voters Convention.
